#1 Beauty and the Beast
Score: 10
The most technically perfect Disney movie there is. It may not be my favorite, but it is darn freakin’ good. Not much more to say except for you to read the review and find out why!
#2 Tangled
Score: 10
An absolute joy to watch from start to finish. The film beautifully builds up to a brilliant scene with lanterns and then turns heel with such perfect execution. The lanterns scene is just breathtaking.
#3 The Lion King
Score: 9 ½
This film actually contains my favorite Disney film scenes. The scenes dealing with Simba and Mufasa are so heartfelt and James Earl Jones’ voice just booms throughout all time as the best dramatic voice performance in a Disney film ever. The music too, what a score. What a great villain too.
#4 Pinocchio
Score: 9 ½
This film is impressive in so many ways. It has deep moments, a great story and the best animation I have ever seen. Memorable characters too, I love Stromboli and his fits of rage.
#5 Zootopia
Score: 9 ½
This film earned its place here through its mature delivery of its message and depth. There are a lot of dark moments in this film that could have been removed, but were left in to hit the message home. It's also completely entertaining from start to finish.
#6 101 Dalmatians
Score: 9 ½
This film has one of the best stories I’ve ever seen in a kids movie. On top of that, its first third is absolutely brilliant and the pacing throughout the film is on point. The animation quality brought this one down a little bit, but it is still a fantastic movie.
#7 Aladdin
Score: 9
The animation, music, and action of this film make it quite enjoyable to watch. If James Earl Jones has the best dramatic voice performance ever, then Robin Williams has the best comedic voice performance ever in the genie. Even some of the other characters are great too, like the carpet, and even Aladdin himself.
#8 Tarzan
Score: 9
The first movie I ever saw in the movie theatres turned out to be a great movie. It doesn’t have a lot of story to it, but it has some unforgettable scenes and a great romance that actually works! This movie knows when to take it slow and really get the most out of the powerful moments.
#9 Wreck-it-Ralph
Score: 9
Wreck-it-Ralph surprised me in that I didn’t expect it to have as much heart as it did. The twists in the movie I definitely didn’t see coming, and there are moments when I really had to acknowledge that the movie had me fooled, that’s how well done it is. The first half was a little slow and hard to get behind though. I noticed that upon rewatching this.
#10 The Princess and the Frog
Score: 8 ½
Fun characters and a relatable main character that you really feel for make this a good movie. In fact, the main character’s struggles are enough on their own to warrant a movie. So why is there a villain? It’s ok, the movie is still great.
#11: Moana
Score: 7 ¾
A familiar story and familiar characters are bolstered by good music, catchy songs, and gorgeous animation.
#12 The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Score: 7 ½
This two part adventure is a hidden gem in the Disney canon that has to be watched. While the first story (the lesser known one about Mr. Toad) is actually better than the second story (the Headless Horseman), both are solid fun that made this a great piece of entertainment.
#13 The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Score: 8
This movie has some amazing elements but it is the first on this list to have some genuinely bad moments. This movie could’ve been great, and a lot of it is. Just not all of it.
#14 Dumbo
Score: 7 ½
A greatly heartfelt film about embracing your “disabilities”, this movie surprised me with its qualities, even if it has some strange elements that go on for a little too long.
#15 The Little Mermaid
Score: 7 ½
This movie, while a little dated, has gorgeous animation and some unforgettable moments. At the same time, it has a pretty bad message.
#16 The Aristocats
Score: 7 ½
An underrated movie with some surprisingly adult humor. Add that to some great characters and you have a good movie, Story isn’t so good, but the characters and their chemistry really works.
#17 Fantasia
Score: 7 ¼
A beautifully animated piece of, music really, that has great pieces and not so great pieces that combine, thankfully, into far more good than bad.
#18 Lady and the Tramp
Score: 7
A film that tells a great story and has a fantastic romantic scene while also being a little too short to fully develop its characters. Nice that this movie doesn’t try to add a villain but instead adds conflict in the form of things that could happen any day, and are the fears of anybody raising a child. Lack of character development is its biggest flaw. That and the film could’ve done more with the dog pound.
#19 Bolt
Score: 7 ¾
A fun movie with a lot of heart, Bolt has an upbeat feel that makes me warm inside whenever I watch it. Unfortunately, it’s also a bit generic and pretty predictable.
#20 Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Score: 7
A surprisingly entertaining movie full of humorous stereotypes, good writing, and a generic story with little-to-no character development. The scenery looks pretty amazing though and the animation is great.
#21 Mulan
Score: 6 ¾
A film with a good message and a great scene, while also having way too much dumb humor and a completely forgettable villain.
#22 Fantasia 2000
Score: 6 ¾
Fantasia 2000 has a few moments that are so good they could’ve been inserted into the original. But there are also some moments that are pretty bad and a few clips that are pretty pointless. The last musical number is one of the most beautiful pieces of animation I’ve ever seen though, featuring a character I simply named “life”, who is a thing of beauty.
#23 Big Hero 6
Score: 7 ¼
An entertaining film with moments of depth that would have been so much better had the film not been the most predictable film I’ve ever seen. It’s a film that is trying to be clever and cool while also being deep and it does look cool, but it is neither clever nor deep. Entertainment alone elevates the score of this film.
#24 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Score: 6 ¼
The first of all of the Disney films is still pretty good due to two great scenes involving a potion and a scary forest. The rest of the film is pretty unremarkable though.
#25 Lilo and Stitch
Score: 6 ¼
A film that has a third act that really brings the film down. If there were any film on this list that would’ve benefitted from the removal of pointless characters and unnecessary villains, this film would be it. It does family drama so incredibly well that silly stupid humor just has no place in this film, despite what the writers keep telling you.
#26 Frozen
Score: 6 ¼
A classic case of music and songs making the movie good. Do they? Not really, because this movie is rushed, has little character development, and doesn’t make a lot of sense. That having been said, it is very funny and pretty entertaining.
#27 Chicken Little
Score: 6 ½
A film that, in the middle, does a complete turn and becomes something completely different and something categorically worse. Just think about it this way: the first half is humor with a lot of drama. The second half is humor with a lot of dumb humor.
#28 The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Score: 5 ¾
A film whose simplicity really resonates with me. I actually like this movie, despite the fact that hardly anything goes on, despite the fact that it has a target audience of age five.
#29 Melody Time
Score: 5 ¾
Similar to Fantasia, this film is a collage of short music videos. Many of them are pretty good. The others are pretty boring.
#30 Oliver and Company
Score: 5 ¾
This movie has a great upbeat beginning that made me think this movie was going to be great. The characters, though complete stereotypes, were hilarious. Then the movie took a turn I completely didn’t expect and suddenly the movie was just average.
#31 Pocahontas
Score: 5 ½
This film is beautiful to look at and features great music and songs. It also features the most lifeless characters ever and a really heavy-handed message. Describe the character of John Smith to me. Please, just give me one word to describe his personality. Can’t find anything? I couldn’t.
#32 Sleeping Beauty
Score: 5 ¼
A classic Disney film that is a little underwhelming. The Prince in this film actually gets stuff to do for once, which is good. The villain is good. But Aurora and the fairies aren’t that great.
#33 The Sword in the Stone
Score: 5 ¼
A great film for its educational value but not really for its story or its animation. The actual “sword in the stone” part of this movie is only in its final five minutes.
#34 The Rescuers Down Under
Score: 5 ¼
Much better than the original The Rescuers, but still not a great film. Has some terrible looking computer shots of a city and some great looking computerized flying scenes. The plot is decent but not remarkable in any way.
#35 Alice in Wonderland
Score: 5
The animation is very surrealist and the world is crazy, but I wish this film used that more for entertainment purposes instead of weirdness for the sake of having weirdness. I got tired by wonderland instead of getting engaged in it.
#36 Peter Pan
Score: 5
Captain Hook and the crocodile have the best chemistry between any two characters in this film. Wendy is ok, but the film is all over the place. Is it dramatic? Is it humorous? I’m still not sure how to categorized this mess.
#37 The Fox and the Hound
Score: 4 ¾
Some heartfelt moments together with a rushed story and a terrible character make for a pretty mediocre film overall.
#38 Meet the Robinsons
Score: 4 ¾
This film is probably better in my opinion than the score it ended up getting. It is a neat concept and has some genuine humor along with a hilarious non-villain, but at the same time, it is a case of wasted potential. Any movie with time-travel in it should maximize that potential. This movie doesn’t and, while in the future, the movie’s pacing is way too fast, trying to establish, like, 10 characters in a span of five minutes.
#39 Make Mine Music
Score: 4 ¾
This film is a carbon copy of Melody Time. Read that review and then just make the film’s quality a bit lower.
#40 The Great Mouse Detective
Score: 4 ½
A bit of wasted potential as well, this film has a good setup but way too many silly and just absurd moments. The story doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. The characters aren’t well developed. It’s predictable.
#41 Cinderella
Score: 4
Takes itself way too seriously. The character of Cinderella is a total killjoy. I enjoyed the mice characters because, despite their annoying voices, they were really sweet and just wanted to help Cinderella.
#42 Brother Bear
Score: 4
This film started out great, then got bogged down, as many Disney movies do, in dumb characters and dumb humor. If your film starts off serious with some humor, maintain both of those elements! Don’t just go 95% humor.
#43 Robin Hood
Score: 3 ¾
The laziest Disney movie I’ve ever seen. Watch it together with the films that came before it and you’ll spot scenes stolen from the other films shot-for-shot. Still, it’s a fun movie.
#44 Hercules
Score: 3 ¾
The music style completely doesn’t fit the movie. There is a terrible CGI hydra that is horrifically bad looking. The movie is literally the definition of silly. Nothing more to be said.
#45 Treasure Planet
Score: 3 ¾
Predictable, and featuring some terrible characters combined with some good characters, this movie could’ve been great if it didn’t feature a bad plot and if it didn’t completely waste the potential dramatic back-story of its main character by glossing over it with a song.
#46 Winnie the Pooh
Score: 3 ¾
Nobody asked for this remake, and it wasn’t better than the first one. The things I said that were good about the first one don’t apply to this one, unfortunately. The characters are still good. That’s all this movie gets.
#47 The Emperor’s New Groove
Score: 3
I absolutely adore this film. Why? Because it is so bad it’s fantastic. The humor is the worst kind of dumb humor possible, and this movie doesn’t relent from it whatsoever. The plot makes no sense and you have to suspend all disbelief. The problem then becomes that the movie thought it was good.
#48 Dinosaur
Score: 3
Boring and bland. It does feature one good scene at the beginning, but that is it.
#49 Bambi
Score: 2 ½
The most manipulative and heavy-handed non-subtle Disney movie ever. I can see why people like it, but it just bored me to tears with how not much happens and a lot just doesn’t seem like it fits in the movie.
#50 The Rescuers
Score: 2 ¼
The most tonally uneven film I’ve ever seen. Sometimes it’s trying to be dark and twisted. Sometimes it’s trying to be hilarious. I just don’t get it at all. What a mess. The story is really dumb too.
#51 Saludos Amigos
Score: 3 ¾
For what it is, this is three short films that kept my attention, even if they had nothing to do with one another.
#52 Fun and Fancy Free
Score: 3 ½
A bit of a mess, this still features some bits of entertainment here and there.
#53 The Three Caballeros
Score: 2
Three animated characters who survive on being dumb go to Latin America. What is the result? To this day I’m not sure. Nothing you want to watch though.
#54 The Jungle Book
Score: 1 ¾
This movie is terrible. It features the worst villain ever, lazy animation, and no story. Seriously, this film literally tells no story. NOTHING HAPPENS! I’ve read Rudyard Kipling’s book too, and it is great! What a waste.
#55 The Black Cauldron
Score: 0 ½
An incoherent mess. If you removed the MAIN CHARACTER from the movie it might make more sense. Seriously, I have no idea who was allowed to green-light this movie, it’s an abomination that makes no sense no matter how you look at it. This movie might have scored half a point on paper but to me, it will always be a zero.
#56 Home on the Range
Score: 0
Yes. You read that correctly. This movie got a zero. It is awful. Nothing in it is good. The humor is lifeless, the characters not developed, the villain a complete parody, the concept inept, and the story incoherent.
