The Lego Ninjago Movie is about Lloyd (Dave Franco), son of the evil Lord Garmadon (Justin Theroux), the bad guy who keeps attacking the city of Ninjago. The city’s only defense is a set of multicolored ninjas who include Lloyd as the green ninja. Garmadon keeps attacking and, while Lloyd keeps defending the city, he can’t help but feel resentful towards his absentee father. When another force attacks the city and overwhelms both the ninjas and Garmadon, father and son must team up. The result is a boring and unimaginative animated film.
I can’t begin to tell you how disappointing this movie was after the double success of The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie. This movie tones down the humor such that the only thing left is the confusing mythology and derivative story. I watched this movie earlier today and can’t tell you a thing about it. The story just went around in circles but ultimately told a story you’ve heard a million times in a row. There was almost no emotion in this movie and the animation felt cheap. To make matters worse, there is a strange computerized cat that pops up in this movie and it just makes things much worse. Please avoid this borefest.
